There are many that have not looked closely at prophecy because they don't believe they can decipher it. There are many prophetic scriptures that point to the coming tribulation period. For a look at large amounts of them please see A Watchman's Cry: Exposing Deception and Surviving the Last Days but let's look now at this specific aspect. 1Thessalonians tells us that just before the tribulation the antichrist will declare peace and safety throughout Israel.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 1Thessalonians 5:1-3
How do we get that much detail from that scripture? Well we read the whole Bible in context. There are other parts of prophecy that elaborate. When we put the puzzle pieces together, we get the bigger picture. In Daniel 9, we see in verse 27 that there will be a covenant, or peace treaty, with many. When you look back to verse 25 and 26 we see the war is on Jerusalem. This means the treaty will bring peace to Jerusalem. We know this is the beginning of tribulation, and that halfway through when the treaty is broken is the beginning of great tribulation. When we refer to Matthew 24 we know that Jesus refers to tribulation and the time leading up to it as sorrows, or birth pangs. The same reference is made above in 1 Thessalonians as well.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Daniel 9:25-27
So where does that leave us now? What is this peace treaty with Israel in Jerusalem? Further scripture tells us this event will divide Jerusalem in half. There will be a line down the middle of it. Part will belong to Israel and part will belong to Gentile unbelievers.
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. Revelation 11:1-2
We can clearly see, looking at today's events, that the Gentiles are the Muslims that currently occupy the Temple Mount with the dome of the rock. The Gentiles are the Palestinian people specifically that live in the country of Israel. With a Palestinian/Israeli peace treaty, Jerusalem would be divided into East Jerusalem and West Jerusalem. They would declare peace in the nation of Israel after war for thousands of years. The two-state agreement, or some variation thereof, is the covenant with many. It will specifically divide Jerusalem legally into two separate peoples. Let's look at some of the current headlines about the peace agreement.
The whole world is watching and pushing a peace treaty between the Palestinian people and Israel. The UN constantly rails on Israel and takes steps to recognize Palestine as a nation even though it isn't. It refuses to recognize Jewish ties to Jerusalem. It has even passed resolutions that tell Israel what to do with their own nation as to where they can build and more. Never has the whole world been so obsessed with peace coming to two groups of people. Why do you think that is? Satan is ready for his time when the antichrist steps on the scene and destroys so many Christian lives. Satan continually pushes the issue. Prophecy will not happen until God says it is time. We must however be vigilant as to what God's word tells us about the matter. The time is upon us. Tribulation is coming like a train barreling down the tracks. It will not be stopped or stalled. Are you ready for what's coming? Do you have a relationship with the Lord? Is your whole house covered? Seek the Lord God while He can be found. Seek Him with your whole heart and hold on tight... for when they say peace and safety then sudden destruction will come upon them.
