Not Just Hearers But Doers

  Many times we read the word and close our bibles and go about our business. We continue with our daily lives and never apply these things to our lives. This is not what the word is meant for. We must take the words we read in the bible and apply them in our lives. We must do more than just hear the word being preached. We must carry them out as well. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forget the manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.              James 1:19-27 If you just hear the word and don't do it, you might as well have looked in the mirror, walked away and completely forgot what you looked like. If you don't do, you are deceiving yourself into thinking you serve the Lord, when you do not. In this case all the reading, praying, and going to church is in vain because you are not growing in Christ. If you have a relationship with God you keep His commandments and do his work. To be undefiled, you must be there for those that need you such as the fatherless and widows, hungry and poor,etc. and also keep yourself unspotted or your robes white. This means you obey God and His commandments to the best of your ability and if you occasionally slip you repent and remove the spot. We must not just sit idly by and read or hear the word like its the latest release on the best seller list and then go about our business like it is done. We must apply that word everyday in our lives to remain unspotted and keep a relationship with the Lord. Please help us spread God's word by donating today. We must keep the bills paid to keep going.
