Do you truly understand how you are made? Every believer knows without a doubt that God created us. What many don't understand is the intricacy of that design reaches far beyond our bodies and how our DNA is formed and details our physical composition. Yes, our bodies are an amazing, complex being with intricacies we may never fully comprehend, but what about the rest of us. If we are made in God's image and modeled after His design what does that mean?

We are made in the image of God. God is three parts in one. He is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are different and yet still the same person. The Father is God but He is not Jesus or the Holy Spirit. The same applies to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, yet they are still One. Understanding how we are made in God's image actually helps us to understand the Trinity better as well. I usually break down by comparing God to a plant. Let's look at a rose bush for a moment. You have one single root and plant that is growing out of the ground. This plant splits into three stems and has a rose on the end of each stem. You still only have one rose bush, but it has parts to it. The rose at the top is not the rose on the left but it is still part of the bush. All three roses are still the rose bush but they are not each other. They're rose number 1, 2, and 3. They all work together to serve the function of the entire entity which is the rose bush. They all are just playing their part.

Humans are made in the same way. We are made in the image of God. Just as God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and still one God, we are one person but made up of body, soul and spirit. When you delve even deeper, there are actually seven Spirits of the Lord that the Holy Spirit is comprised of. So, us being made in the image of God, have a body (representative of Jesus Christ), a soul (representative of the Father), and a spirit (representative of the Holy Spirit). We are triune beings. Everyone, even unbelievers acknowledge the existence of the body. We can all see hear touch and recognize it with our senses in some way. Our soul gets plenty of recognition as well. Everyone understand we have our own minds, or sentience, and we use them in a manner fitting to our person. Our mind, or soul, is not our body and visa versa however they are both part of us and make up who we are. Many however completely ignore the fact that they have a spirit. For whatever reason, and there are many we won't get into in this article, they have dismissed their spirit as even existing and refuse to acknowledge it.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:26-27

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart Hebrews 4:12.

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Luke 1:46-47

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:44-47

Whether they believe its there or not, it still exists and we all still need it to operate daily. Your spirit (spiritual body) is who operates in the spiritual realm. We pray in the spirit, worship in the spirit, fight in the spirit, and do many things with our spiritual bodies. We don't war against flesh and blood but against spirits and to do that we must fight with our spirits. SO many automatically dismiss any talk of their spirit operating separately because the enemy uses it heavily in astral projection, spirit travel, soul travel and other new age and satanic practices which are all witchcraft, however we must remember that everything Satan does he copies (counterfeits) it from something God does and is meant for the kingdom of God and His children. We are not to operate in the spirit realm without the Lord but we are to operate in the spirit by God's hand. If it isn't of God then God won't take you to do it. When we are operating in things that are of God, our spirit works independently of our soul and body. Many don't understand that when they ask the Lord to put the armor of God on them, they're literally putting that armor on in the spirit. When you ask the Lord to let you fight with your sword of the Spirit for someone, you actually pick up a sword in the spirit and fight against the unclean spirit, fallen angel, demon or principality attacking them. Spiritual warfare is just that. It is a battle with your spirit against the enemy. It's not just words in a prayer that echo pointlessly. It's you suiting up in armor and going to war for the kingdom of God being a soldier in the army of the Lord. These aren't fruitless metaphors in scripture. It is your spirit that is sealed with the Holy Spirit, not your body or soul. It is your spirit that lives for eternity and goes to heaven. It is your spirit that is guided by the Holy Spirit and then directs your soul to act accordingly.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:26

And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Acts 7:59

And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. Luke 8:55

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. Daniel 7:15

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Romans 1:9

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 1 Corinthians 14:15

In addition to these scriptures, please also see Revelation 6:9-11, 2 Corinthians, 10:3, 12:1-4, Luke 24:39, 1 Peter 4:6, and 1 Corinthian 7:34 for more evidence of our spirit operating separately from our physical bodies and soul as well as it is our spirit that resides in heaven. For verses that show us that it is our spirit not our bodies or soul that is sealed with the Holy Spirit please see 1 Corinthians 6:17 and Romans 8:16. These verse are far from expansive. There are many others if you choose to study to show yourselves approved rightly dividing the word of God. All of creation waits for the redeemed to realize the fulness of the authority and dominion as well as gifts that the Father has given His children which are fellow heirs with Christ Jesus They wait for us to step into our birthright and inheritance. It's time we understand our spirits and recognize them as part of us. To acknowledge that we are not whole without them and let God use us completely, body, soul, and spirit for His glory. You are made in the image of God. Do you allow the Lord to use all of you or just your soul and body? Rise up child of God. Step into your place in the kingdom and acknowledge every part of you. Don't quench the Holy Spirit or His operation through your spirit.
