Bury It Down Deep: When Anger Plants A Seed

Many times in life, we get angry or offended at things or people that we encounter. This world can be very hurtful, especially when we encounter nonbelievers regularly. Some people hurt us intentionally and some accidentally or even without their knowledge. When this happens anger usually flares in some way.

The question is how do most of us deal with this anger. Righteous anger can be a healthy thing. However scripture tells us not to let the sun go down on our wrath. Whether you have righteous or unhealthy anger, we are to let it go and lay it at God's feet. Unfortunately, a lot of people never resolve this anger. Instead they bury it down deep and harbor it.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:  Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27

Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.  Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Matthew 5:21-25

Scripture tells us that we should immediately address any anger and if possible, rectify the situation. There is a reason for this. Notice Ephesians says not to give the devil place right after that? The Greek word used in this verse best translates to Satan. This means we give Satan and all his minions an opportunity to come into our lives when we harbor anger. When a person buries anger instead of resolving it, then it becomes a seed. This seed grows into a root, and that root when it comes from anger or offense is bitterness. By holding on to anger, offense and hurt feelings we invite the spirit of bitterness into our souls. This is warfare on the mind. Bitterness usually comes with friends like anger, wrath, rage, and others that cause you to be pessimistic and react with anger yourself often at situations that have no cause to be so angry about or even angry at all. When we continue in this behavior it builds an unholy stronghold in our lives. The longer a stronghold is there, the harder it is to break. This is why God's Word tells us not to give the devil place by holding on to anger, and that we should immediately resolve it, even before we continue with our daily prayer and worship. We can of course pray and ask Him for help to resolve the issue. Our sacrifice and gifts we put on the altar now are our worship and praise. We should resolve any anger in our hearts or where we have made others angry as soon as possible. We are not to let a day pass and should do so before we go into our daily worship. If we do not do this our prayers and worship are brought before the Lord with our hands and heart being unclean. Many times we are not able to speak to the person directly when we realize we have harbored anger. This is when we verbally make a choice to forgive that person or repent before the Lord so that the enemy can hear our choice. Remember, forgiveness and repentance are choices you make not feelings you have. Sometimes, we must choose daily to walk in those choices.

If you are holding on to anger, bitterness, grudges, offense, or any similar feelings for trespasses against you, its time to let them go. Lay them at the Lords feet and leave them there. Make amends if possible to anyone you have wronged as well. Do not give the devil place by letting these doors stay open in your life. Its time to chop those roots of bitterness out of your soul.

Here is a prayer to release it:

Father I humble myself before You. Cleanse my heart and hands with the blood of Jesus. I choose now to forgive everyone that has hurt me or sinned against me whether I am aware of it or not. I lay every bit of anger and unforgiveness at Your feet. I let go of the pride that holds these things here and the anger that holds the bitterness. I release every bit of anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness I harbor for anyone or anything to You now and over every situation. I trust You with my life and You know what is best for me. I forgive myself and You for anything I hold against either of us. I know Your love is unconditional no matter what I have done. I choose to no longer walk in condemnation, guilt and shame for there is no condemnation for those now in Christ Jesus. I take an ax and chop every root of bitterness, anger, pride, and unforgiveness from my belly now and pull them out. Any spirit that has come in because of them must leave now. I call any alter created because of any situation of trauma, anger, bitterness, pride, rejection, or unforgiveness out of their captivity now and command them to use the key given to us by Christ to take themselves to heavenly places. I ask the courts to heal all alters back into my soul and make me whole again. I choose to walk in forgiveness, humility, love, and mercy. I cannot expect to receive mercy or forgiveness if I will not give it. Your word says if I do not forgive then You will not forgive me. I choose now to give it all to You. You are the Judge. I recognize that forgiveness is not a feeling but a choice and I choose now to release it. I release any and all defilement from myself and my land that has come due to my iniquity in these matters and any other matters. I ask the Lord for ministering angels to come and heal my land and minister to me over the matter. I ask that You send warring angels to do battle and drag off every spirit that has attacked or attached due to these circumstances now. They are not welcome and cannot stay. I close these doors and break all rights now. I will no longer let the sun set on my wrath and will extend the same mercy that is extended to me. Lord help me to walk in this choice and heal the wounds associated with it. in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I ask and declare now and thank You Lord for all that You do. Let Your glory reign forever.
