In the hustle and bustle of the season, everyone is running around in a frenzy. They are so focused on putting up lights and trees, buying gifts, planning big parties, picking out the perfect outfit, and other activities that they have forgotten what Christmas is about. Commercialism has overtaken worship. Decorations have swallowed up praise. Spending entirely too much on gifts in competition has chased away kindness, joy and peace. Santa has stolen the spotlight of the true hero, Jesus Christ. Every child knows who Santa is, even at two years old, but how many of those same children of professing Christians can tell us who Jesus is? How many more can tell us that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the Savior that came to save us all?
We go about our holiday, spending hours upon hours wrapping presents, and 30 seconds saying remember the reason for the season. We put a nativity in our yard, but do we read the scripture when family is gathered for our Christmas feast? Do we even know where in the Bible the Christmas story is? How long has it even been since many have opened their Bible to read it for themselves? We say let's put the Christ back in Christmas, but do we mean it? Putting Christ back in Christmas is far more than just saying Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. It far exceeds making sure you write Christmas out instead of putting an X. If you are truly not ashamed of Christ and want to put Christ back in Christmas, spend 30 minutes reading the Christmas story from scripture while all your family and friends are there. Bow your heads together in prayer and thank the Lord for coming to earth to save us all. Lift your voices in one accord to praise the King of kings and rejoice with the angels that a child was born in the manger that day and HE STILL LIVES! Gather around a piano, or a computer and sing Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Mary Did You Know, or any other combination of songs that praises the Lord for His birth. We truly need to put Christ back in Christmas. Take the focus off Santa, presents, decorations and put it on the only thing that truly matters, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, that loves us enough, that He came to earth to save us. It's time to take Christmas back guys! Who's with me?
Reading the story of His birth from the Bible is such a great idea! Thank you!
