During the past months (at least since May) the volcano has been constantly active with a weakly alimented lava flow on the upper southern flank, which has been generating frequent incandescent rock falls. It decreased during July, but a new phase of more violent activity might be in the making now and could make new evacuations necessary. Alert level of the volcano remains at 3 (out of 4). [less]

The first explosion on 14 Aug occurred at 10:50 local time with an ash plume that rose approx. 8000 meters above the summit crater. During the same day, it was followed by 5 more explosions of similar or smaller size. Some of the explosions produced pyroclastic flows.
The volcano calmed down a bit during yesterday, but had another explosion in the afternoon. [less]

Raung's summit caldera on 14 Aug 2015
This activity originated from the lower, southwestern vent of the large, double-crater new cinder cone in the eastern part of the caldera. The larger vent to the NE was almost entirely inactive, except two small, very weakly active effusive vents on its inner walls. Occasionally, glowing lava blocks were pushed out from these.
The recent lava flow was no longer active. Like a giant pancake, it has completely covered the caldera floor surrounding the large cinder cone. [less]

Seismicity at San Miguel since the beginning of 2015 (MARN)
The volcano, however, had remained in state of unrest during the past months, with both elevated seismic and SO2 degassing activity. In particular, seismicity started to rise again in July this year. A peak occurred on 12 August, a day before the eruption.

This will likely result in more and larger pyroclastic flows that can threaten a number of villages that so far have been unharmed. These include Pasarpinter Gurkinayan, Simpang Sibintun, Perjumaan Batukejan, Jembatan Lau Benuken Tigapancur, Pejuman Tigabogor, Pentumbes, Jeraya, and Kutatengah on the SE slope.
The volcano is kepts at the highest alert status ("awas" or 4 out of 4) and an exclusion zone of 7 km is kept in place. [less]

Ash eruption from Colima this afternoon
After the collapse of the lava dome on 11 July, activity had been almost exclusively effusive and produced a new lava flow on the southern flank. This activity gradually ceased in late July, to be now replaced by the arrival of probably fresher and more gas-rich magma, hence more capable to produce explosions from the summit crater.
The exclusion zone of 8 km radius around the volcano remains in place. It is extended to 12 km in the area of the Monte Grande valley to the south. [less]

The surface temperatures of the solidified lava measured by the field crew were in the range of 550-600 Celsius (1000-1100 Fahrenheit), which is consistent with cooling lava. Minor ash and gas emissions also were observed. A small explosion occurred on Thursday, August 6 at 22:03 AKDT (08/07/15 06:03 UTC). No ash cloud was observed from this explosion, in satellite or web camera images or by observers.
Observations of diffuse ash emissions and small explosions indicate that eruptive activity is still occurring. [less]

It seems that no fatalities have occurred during the large explosion on Friday (31 July). According to news articles, only one child was injured by falling lapilli, but survived and could be treated in a hospital. ...more
Up to 2 cm of ash has been deposited over most of the island, destroying or damaging much farmland, many houses and contaminating water sources. Respiratory problems are a major concern in the aftermath of the eruption, which, however, could easily have had a much worse outcome.
There are no reports of evacuations of people from the island (as occurred in 2004, when a similar, although even larger explosion occurred, killing several people and prompting more than 9000 people to be evacuated). [less]

The vertical cliff face of Palea Kameni's east side. Probably around 1457-58 AD, a part of the island broke off, exposing the concentrically fractured interior of the lava dome that forms the island which appeared in the caldera in 197 BC.

These volcanoes are active in some way. Some have warnings and others are currently erupting. There are usually less than 10 volcanoes erupting simultaneously at any given time on the ring of fire. There are currently at least 36 erupting today and 32 more with warnings or minor activity. That is unprecedented. The bible refers to the sign of the last days as a woman in labor. When a woman's labor is coming to and end and the baby's head is crowning as it is born, they call that the ring of fire. Irony or God thinking ahead... You be the judge. As in Joel 2:30
